Tag des offenen Denkmals

Across Germany, many cities opened memorials for a behind the scene view at the last weekend.  Being in Cologne, two locations drew my attention, the is the Funkhaus Wallrafplatz, the location where the regional WDR radio station started back in 1948. The building is still in use and features some interesting architecture and history of radio in Germany and operates one of the last "Paternoster" type of escalator, only for use of employees, unfortunately.

Second on the list came a visit to Kölner Großmarkt, the main trading place for fresh produce. The building features a very clean design from the early 1930's and has since 1940 been in use. Lighting was not ideal for ISO 400....
